Recycling Systems - How the system works

The system specifically covers aluminium cans and PET plastic beverage containers. By placing a deposit (typically $1.00) on the container at the point of sale punters are incentivised to return their empty cans or plastic bottles to one of the event’s recycling centres to redeem their deposit. As each container represents $1.00 the economic value cycles from punter to bar to punter

To date the recycling system has achieved amazing recycling rates of between 80%-95% and has been extremely well received by audience members..

If a punter complies with the system they will always redeem their original deposit, and will not be out of pocket. Likewise if punters want to collect discarded containers, then they stand to make money out of the system (and help keep the event clean).

The only time a punter will be out of pocket is if they make a conscious decision not to recycle, thereby discarding the container and the associated $1.00 deposit
